Recently, Western Tailor achieved a meaningful milestone by presenting its first-ever fashion show during the BIGSABAH Sale at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). This event introduced the brand’s current direction, showing its readiness to embrace fresh concepts, modern ideas and bring even greater value to the community.
Western Tailor was established in 1979 by Master Tailor Chan Kim Kuo, who is widely respected for his detailed workmanship. With over 45 years of experience, he has built a strong reputation and is a member of the World Federation of Master Tailors and the Federation of Asian Master Tailors. He has also represented Sabah multiple times at the International Tailor’s Congress around the world.
Today, the brand continues to grow with the involvement of the second generation. Gerain Chan, son of Master Chan, has joined the company and brings a fresh, energetic approach to Western Tailor’s present chapter. Beyond tailoring, Gerain expanded into the world of perfumery by creating Gerain Chan Parfums, where he personally cultivated his expertise and furthered his studies overseas.
In 2024, he launched ELEGANZA, a unisex fragrance crafted with refined chemistry and high-level perfume techniques. The result is a scent designed to be astonishing, memorable and truly unique. Exclusively available at Western Tailor, ELEGANZA positions the brand as the first and only local bespoke tailor in Malaysia to offer its own signature perfume.
Gerain’s long-term vision is not only to cater to the local elite market but also to bring his fragrance line onto the international stage.
For more than 30 years, Western Tailor operated in Kompleks Karamunsing before moving to Suria Sabah Shopping Mall. The new outlet officially opened on 1 March 2024, marking the brand’s 45th anniversary and offering a refreshed, modern shopping experience.
