HYATT RAYA VISIT TO SEKOLAH UGAMA ISLAM SABAH, TAMBUNAN

KOTA KINABALU, SABAH More than 20 members of staff and management of Hyatt Regency Kinabalu brought some Hari Raya cheer to the rural students and teachers of Sekolah Ugama Islam Sabah in Tambunan recently.

Dressed in traditional malay baju kurung and batik, the hotel had to drive for 2 hours to get to the school in Tambunan, in the interior of Sabah some 80km from Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival, they were greeted excitedly by some 205 seven to eighteen years-old students of the school, ranging from Primary 1 to Primary 6 and from Form 1 to From 6.

The event started off with a brief address by the school’s Principal Ustazah Hajah Siti Zubaidah Abdul Rahim and Hyatt Regency Kinabalu’s general manager Arifin Darmawan, followed by a prayer before the students were treated to a sumptuous lunch buffet catered by the five-star hotel.

After a feast of fried noodles, chicken, curry puffs, assorted Raya cakes and fruits served by the Hyatt team, the students were presented with duit raya by the general manager.
Sekolah Ugama Islam Sabah Tambunan hosts Muslim students, mostly from the villages around Tambunan which are poor farming communities, at the hostel which was provided by Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Sabah.
The hostel provides free board and food but the school has to depend on public donations for other necessities and the odd treats.
Ustazah Zubaidah said the school and hostel is always appreciative of any assistance from generous contributors particularly the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu which has been paying regular yearly visits for Hari Raya for many years.
The Hyatt Regency Kinabalu team also donated groceries including cooking oil, rice, vermicelli noodles, Milo, sugar and biscuits for the students, as well as used pillow cases, bedsheets and clothes from the employees.  Hyatt Regency Kinabalu will continue its efforts to support the community in the future in line with its Thrive platform to address needs of the local communities.

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, under their Hyatt Thrive corporate social responsibility programme recognizes the importance of helping make the communities in which they operate.
